![]() ![]() The point of this book is not to give an exhaustive description of Jesus’ life or teachings but rather to present him as God’s Son and reveal him as the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel - namely, that through Israel’s Messiah all creation would be redeemed (1:1). The word gospel comes from the Old English godspel, meaning “good news” or “glad tidings.” When we say that we believe in the gospel, we are saying that we believe in God’s good news about Jesus Christ and his offer of eternal life for all who trust him as Savior and Lord. The gospel was probably written between AD 80 and 100. It was written by John, one of Jesus’ disciples, who also wrote the three epistles that bear his name.
